Book Signing

Five hour drive the day before, to Jacksonville. Checked out the venue, so we knew where we were going in the morning. My husband had found a great place to eat, Southern Comfort, in a warehousey part of town. Writers are allowed to make up words.

Friday buffet, all come at 6:30, seated, then the chef cooks. While cooking, he brings us (about 14 people) a sample of dessert (ginger cookies). Then we line up and serve ourselves. Greens, barbecue ribs, grits and cheese, fried chicken, conch fritters, shrimp, and cole slaw. Water or ice tea. A platter of fried shrimp appears on our table, and he comes around with a huge iron skillet of blackened shrimp, and later, fried green tomatoes. And then we got to take home as much of the leftovers as we wanted.

Over to the signing in the morning. Setting up and meeting our neighbors. Then at ten, brunch. Eggs, bacon, sausage, french toast, fruit, muffins, pastries, chocolate cookies.

Back to browse each other’s tables, til open to the public. I didn’t sell any books there, but a lot of people took my cards, wanted to order Kindle version. Drove down to Gainesville for dinner. The seafood place we wanted wasn’t open so we ended up at Chili’s. To Ocala for the night, and home Sunday. Made friends, got exposure, which is important at this stage of the game.
